To help advance the mission of the Tennessee Valley Corridor, the Corridor develops and supports key initiatives and ventures involving multiple organizations and partners throughout the region.
Adopted by the TVC Board of Directors as a workforce development and educational initiative, the Tennessee Valley Corridor
NCO Enhanced Workforce in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (NEW-STEM) Initiative was created to fill the current shortage of scientists and engineers in the Tennessee Valley with the flux of technically-trained NCOs departing from the military. The Initiative will soon begin linking NCOs leaving the service with job openings in the U.S. Army’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA), the Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) and the Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) in Huntsville, Ala. Selected NCOs will attend a North Alabama university or community college to gain their engineering degree while participating in a co-operative educational assignment/work study program being offered by one of the U.S. Army’s commands. Upon the NCOs college graduation, they will permanently fill a position with the U.S. Army command they worked for during their co-operative educational assignment.

An additional workforce development and educational initiative in East Tennessee that is also supported by the TVC Board of Directors is the “
America's Veterans to Tennessee Engineers” program. The Oak Ridge and Knoxville, Tenn. communities are sponsoring this program for military members completing their service to our country and interested in becoming Nuclear, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineers. The program supports veterans that are using their GI Bill benefits to complete their Engineering degrees and will provide them a guaranteed job upon graduation. In addition, the community and corporate sponsors offer part time employment, community sponsors, and academic mentors.

Another emerging initiative is the
Tennessee Valley Nuclear Energy Coalition (TVNEC). As the Corridor continues to be a leader in America’s energy innovation and nuclear renaissance, the TVNEC may soon become the next key initiative supported by the TVC.
